Perhaps the reason to elope was because of a lack of family support. But that is not how elopements are defined today! Today, the definition of an elopement wedding has shifted to mean a small intimate ceremony, [...]

What makes a wedding an elopement? Over the next couple of weeks, I will be covering several different topics related to eloping from what it is to reasons why to elope and finally how to break the news to your family. The main thing to focus on is what do you want your day to look like and to authentically represent your relationship instead of just following traditions because that’s how things have always been done or because of what Aunt Edna wants. Don’t get me wrong, Aunt Edna is a great lady, but today is about you two!

The size of the wedding

The most obvious element of an elopement is the smaller size. The original elopement size was the couple, officiant and witnesses but this was mostly because the elopement was an effort to hide the marriage. Since elopements are now an accepted wedding style, there is no reason to hide. After all we want to share all those gorgeous wedding pictures and videos, right? Today elopements can vary in size from being just the couple (some states do not require officiants or witnesses!) to including family and friends. In order to be considered an elopement, the standard is that it includes 25 or less people. That’s great news for having your nana or a best friend or two at your ceremony if you so choose!

The uniqueness

No relationship is the same. Because of this, I believe that the ceremony should reflect the uniqueness of the couple and their story. An elopement is easier to handcraft, to have bespoke elements that are lovingly incorporated. Just like weddings, most elopements involve using a select group of vendors to create the experience you want for your wedding. While some of those may overlap with what you would have for a traditional wedding (musicians, florists, bakery and catering, hair and make-up artists, etc), they are at a smaller scale which tends to keeps costs down. On the other hand, you have the option to involve unusual additional vendors, such as adventure Jeep guides or someone who plays Tibetan singing bowls. You get to choose the experience you want to have to mark your day!

The timing

Since the elopement was the Romeo and Juliet wedding, A.K.A. let’s get married for love, there has always been a feel of romantic spontaneity about eloping. Some elopements can be planned years in advance. However, since there aren’t as many scheduling constraints for things like venues or caterers, an elopement is a shorter runway to marriage. Even on the day of ceremony itself, you do not have worry about the timing of when to cut cake or when the caterer needs to close the bar. You have more flexibility for spontaneity in your schedule since you don’t have as many people or components to arrange. Want to spend more time smooching or popping champagne? Great, it’s up to you and your small group of vendors.

The destination

Most elopements involve some travel. It doesn’t mean going to a far flung place. Sometimes, travel can involve only a few hours of driving to a non-traditional venue. Most couple choose somewhere that is either part of their love story, like the mountains or some place they have always wanted to go. But as with most decisions around your ceremony, I recommend choosing something that feels authentic to you. While social media is peppered with photos in what seem like exotic or extreme locations, setting your elopement in your family’s backyard or even in the city can be a great choice. Creative locations make for meaningful memories and beautiful photos.

Hopefully, this helps you feel a little more at ease with the idea of an elopement. The best thing is that you get to decide what an elopement is for your ceremony. As you can see there are still quite a few decisions to make when planning an elopement. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed, I am here to help you plan from finding vendors to how to select a dress for your unique ceremony. As part of my elopement packages, I include planning services customized for the experience you want to have!

For many of us, the dress is one of the wedding elements we have been dreaming about and planning for since being a little girl. Over the course of your life, maybe it has shifted from a big fluffy number with a tiara to an elegant streamlined column dress and back to something fluffy but this time with cowboy boots. All, that to day, it’s a big deal so how do you go about choosing a dress for your adventure elopement? Here are some helpful hints!
  • Choosing a dress for the weather – If your ceremony is taking place during a colder season or during a sunrise when the temperatures are lower, the name of the game is accessories. You may need to wear some thermal leggings underneath, so consider that as you try on dresses. Choosing a pair of bubble gum pink leggings that peak out from under your dress could be a fun touch or if you want something more subtle, nude leggings are also a great choice (here’s a great example of a cold weather ensemble!). Having a dress with a large slit might not be conducive to warmth or hiding a pair of tights. For summer, there aren’t as many considerations, but do think about whether the fabric will breath. Being strapped into a multi-layer or long sleeve dress might make you feel like melting!
  • Make sure you feel gorgeous in it! – Your dress should reflect who you are. If you love color, this is not the day to banish colors from your wardrobe. Let those vibrant reds, golden tumerics and alpine lake turquoises come out to play!
deep red wedding dress
  • Get comfortable – When you are trying on dresses, MOVE in them. Bend and snap! Squat and twist! If that bodice is too tight or pinches, it might be a source of frustration for you on the big day and we don’t want that! A column or mermaid style dress isn’t ideal for clambering over boulders in the mountains, but would be divine for a summer beach wedding on a Greek island.
  • Getting that epic wind blown look – We’ve all swooned over them. You know which ones I am talking about! Those pictures and videos of a glowing bride with her dress billowing around her in a cloud of frothy beauty. Choosing an elopement dress that will make the most of the slightest breeze is key. How do you do that, you ask? Check the fabrics – chiffon, silk and crepe are all lightweight and will capture the slightest breeze. Have someone film you spinning and playing with the dress when you are trying it on. This will give you an idea of how easily the cut and fabric will move on the day of your wedding!

Flowing wedding dress on mountain top
  • Think about the hemline – Depending on what you are planning for your adventure elopement from 4×4 jeep excursions, hiking or climbing, get creative with your hemline. A short babydoll dress can be dreamy on a hike, but don’t rule out longer dresses too. A dress can be packed and carried to the ceremony location or hiking in it can provide some awesome video of the dress trailing over rocks. Some people relish their dirt ombre dress photos!
  • Where are some good shops – Here are a few recommendations for good places to begin your dress search – Reclamation for a one of a kind creation, BHLDN by Anthropologie for a mid range, Lulus as a budget and of course, we are big fans of second hand clothing shops as well since they have the double bonus of ecological as well as budget considerations.

Hopefully this helps you when you are choosing your elopement dress. Please reach out if you have any questions or additional tips! We know you will be gorgeous no matter what.

In preparing for a wedding, consider looking into your local Dentist in Lakewood, Lakewood Complete Dentistry. When thinking about their wedding day, a happy couple’s emotions can range from pure excitement to anxiety. Many times, they aren’t anxious about their choice of spouse but in having everyone’s eyes on them. They want every detail to be perfect on their special day, and some clients of mine have expressed concerns about how their smile will appear on the footage, especially for those who wear white.

If you are in a similar situation, you don’t have to worry! You can brighten your smile in time for your wedding. It just requires some advanced planning and a little help. Read on to learn more about your teeth whitening options so that you can smile with confidence when you say, “I do.”

Try Store-Bought Teeth Whitening

If you’re in a pinch or on a tight budget, commercial whitening solutions can make a small, noticeable difference in the color of your teeth. Just make sure that you start the treatments at least a few weeks before the big day and avoid foods and drinks that can stain your pearly whites. These include red wine, soy sauce, chocolate, coffee, and tomato sauce, and staying away from them in the weeks leading up to the wedding can help you keep the results in time.

Turn to a Professional

For more dramatic whitening results, you’ll need professional-grade treatment. Fortunately, your dentist in Lakewood, Lakewood Complete Dentistry, can provide multiple solutions to meet your needs. In the office, you can have a significantly whiter smile in about an hour. Or, if you prefer the convenience of at-home treatments, you can use custom whitening trays over the course of about two weeks. Either way, you should achieve up to 10 shades in the short time before you walk down the aisle.

If you have teeth that don’t seem to respond to teeth whitening, you still have an alternative that can give you the results you’re looking for. Porcelain veneers, which are ceramic coverings, look just like tooth enamel—only stronger and more stain resistant. In just two appointments, you could have a smile that you’ll be proud to show off to all your guests.

Whether you choose to work with a cosmetic dentist in Lakewood, such as  Lakewood Complete Dentistry, or whiten on your own, giving yourself a brighter smile can help you have the confidence to be the center of attention. And what’s more, you can find yourself enjoying the moment with the one you love most! I’ll be there to capture it all and provide memories you’ll cherish for years to come.

Looking for a dog friendly wedding venue in Colorado?

For many of us, our pets are furry members of our families. They’ve been there for us day after day for years as our best friends and confidants. Because of this, you need a dog friendly wedding venue! Honestly, who better to have at your ceremony? They aren’t going to have opinions about your choice to wear a red dress on your wedding day or if you didn’t invite Aunt Mindy. Frankly, I love dogs and they add so much personality to your wedding story!

Lucky for you, Colorado is an ideal place to do your elopement with your dog. The rules of Colorado’s marriage licensing are as laid back as the culture. Colorado’s marriage license has two signature lines for witnesses, but doesn’t require them to be completed. Due to this interesting little self solemnizing ruling, your fur baby can ‘sign’ as your witness and become a documented legal part of your milestone day! Make sure that you have a non toxic ink pad to record his or her official paw print.

With so many stunning vistas in Colorado, it can be hard to narrow down a ceremony location. While many National Parks do not allow dogs, there are so many beautiful areas in Colorado to have a ceremony and include your fur pal. Most locations will require you to have your dog on a leash so make sure you have one handy. It’s important that your doggo is leash friendly. The last thing you want is your fur friend pouting non stop throughout your ceremony.

Dog Friendly Wedding Venue

Dog friendly wedding venues

Garden of the Gods Park | Dog Friendly Wedding Venue in Colorado Springs

Garden of the Gods allows dogs on all their trails. With 300′ tall sandstone rock formations against the iconic Pikes Peak and proximity to Denver, it is an ideal location for you to share your best day with your best pup and your betrothed!

The Great Sand Dunes | Dog Friendly Wedding Venue San Luis

The Great Sand Dunes National Park opens the front sand dunes, which includes the 699 foot High Dune, to four legged friends. The sand can get hot in the sun for their paw pads so choosing to go barefoot is not only will not only look fabulous stylistic option but also ensure you are able to temperature check the sand! This location provides an otherworldly landscape with its rolling sugar sand mounds.

Sapphire Point Overlook | Dog Friendly Wedding Venue near Breckinridge

Stunning and popular, Sapphire Point Overlook located between Keystone and Breckinridge is the only location in the Dillon Ranger District of the White River National Forest that allows wedding ceremonies and it also accommodates dogs. A short hike will make it easy for your dog, especially the ones with little legs!

Sunrise Amphitheater | Dog Friendly Wedding Venue in Boulder

Sunrise Amphitheater on the summit of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder is a fabulous location for a small wedding. The semi circle of stone seating looks out over the valley. Whether it is at sunrise or sunset, it is sure to provide a beautiful backdrop for your vows. For a more adventurous location in Boulder, you can travel to Lost Gulch Overlook, also on Flagstaff Mountain.

Bridal Veil Falls | Dog Friendly Wedding Venue in Telluride

Telluride’s Bridal Veil Falls: The name says it all! A beautiful location and if you drive up the road, it makes for an easy day for your pooch.

National Forests and BLM Land | Dog Friendly Wedding Venues

For those who are more adventurous, there are so many backcountry areas within the Bureau of Land Management’s care that will allow dogs. If you are interested in something like this, please let me know and we can find a perfect place for you and your fur family member

Some other dog friendly wedding tips

Your fur baby is so important to you and I know you want the best for him, so here are some helpful hints for caring for your dog on the big day! Due to Colorado’s arid climate, bring plenty of water and a bowl for her to drink out of. Depending on how far you are hiking, don’t forget to include snacks in your gear. Make sure you carry some poop bags to leave the wild as pristine as we found it. Have a back up plan for their care if the day gets too long or weather conditions aren’t ideal. Having a doggie daycare and boarding service ready in case you or your pet needs some down time from all the festivities.

If you are interested in including your furry friend on your wedding day, let me know and we can collaborate on making the day as stress free for them, as it is for you!
